Industrial potato starch extraction process can be divided into the following process:

Potato starch extraction process

1. Cleaning and washing: In potato starch extraction process, the first step is cleaning. Cleaning process is for removing the stone, seed and dirt of potato. Dry sieve is mainly used for this purpose. Then the potato need to be washed in rotary washing machine. After the two process, the potato is completely and thoroughly washed.

2. Cutting and rasping: After washing, the potato is firstly cut into small pieces so that it can be crushed fully in potato starch extraction process. After cutting, the potato is crushed into slurry for further processing. Crushing plays an important role in the potato starch production plant for it determines the starch yield. DOING rasper is a high efficient machine with high rasping coefficient and high extraction rate.

3. Separating and desanding: After crushing, the fiber, protein, cell sap and other materials are released from cell wall. Therefore the separating is needed to separate starch from fiber and other impurities in potato starch extraction process. Separating process mainly remove fiber from starch. And the mainly machine contains centrifuge sieve and fine fiber sieve which remove fiber and small fiber respectively. After that, the potato starch slurry is pumped by a screw pump into a desander to remove sand particles.

4. Concentration and refining: The starch slurry from the desander unit is transferred to the multi-stage concentration and refining unit. In potato starch extraction process, hydrocyclone separator is mainly used for this process. The process water is pumped in from the other end of the hydrocyclone station to wash the starch in a countercurrent way. Usually a full process includes the concentration, recycling and refining of starch milk.

5. Dehydrating: The dehydrating is used to reduce the water content of starch milk so that is can be dried in potato starch extraction process. Vacuum filter take use of negative pressure to achieve the purpose of dehydrating. The starch milk is sucked onto the drum, and the filtrate is sucked into the filtrate separation tank and pumped away by the filtrate pump. The filter cake is scraped down by the scraper and transported into the feed hopper of the flash dryer with food-grade conveyor belt.

6. Drying and packing: The final potato starch extraction process is the drying and packing. The dehydrated starch cake is transported to the feed inlet of the flash dryer through the conveyor belt and enters the hoist through the feeder. The wet starch is heated by the high speed hot air and the water is evaporated. Finally, the dried starch is then transported to semi-automatic packaging machine and packaged into finished products.
